It’s been a while since I’ve had to drive during rush hour to downtown Atlanta, but I quickly resumed old habits. Always looking for the fastest lane, I passed in front of an 18-wheeler on the right and worked my way back and forth. Just as I was feeling pleased with my progress and the victories along the way, that same slow 18-wheeler went right by me. After that happened 3 or 4 times I started thinking about the Tortoise and the Hare. Look how much effort my approach was taking, while the trucker was moving steadily along.

The same can be said with Search Ranking and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). There are so many SEO methods out there and they appeal to our desire to quickly dominate the search listing. We read an article about SEO or hear a recommendation, we ‘change lanes’ to try that approach. Soon we hear about someone getting good results from another method and we change lanes again….and again. SEO is a long-term process that is hindered or, at worst, is hurt by not charting and sticking to a sound strategy.

Let the Hares go with the quick gimmicks. Slow and steady wins the race!
